Strathclyde Team in Brain Storming Session at the Glasgow Science Centre

The Strathclyde team recently visited the Glasgow Science Centre for a brainstorming session aimed at developing demonstrators for public engagement. The teams identified three activities:

Activity 1: An interactive demonstration on measuring air quality and understanding the principles behind these measurements. The demonstration rig will consist of a light source participants can increase obstruction to demonstrate light scattering and less light received in detector.

Activity 2: Identifying sources of air pollution using a map of Glasgow. Red, amber, and green lights will be placed at the locations of the 22 GEMINOA Air Quality sensors to indicate air quality. Participants will identify the pollution sources, with a potential extension involving changes in illumination based on different wind directions.

Activity 3: Indoor and Outdoor Air Quality Interactions. This demonstration will use a box-in-a-box rig, where the outer box represents the ‘world’ and the inner box a ‘household’. Participants can introduce air pollution into the ‘world’ to observe its effects on the ‘household’ through ventilation, or introduce household pollutants (e.g., from cooking) to see the impact of ventilation. The demonstration will consider various sized materials to emulate particle sizing.

The teams are now prototyping the demonstration rigs. Stay tuned for updates.
