SmartSTEMS: Air quality youth engagement

SmartSTEMs has launched the GEMINOA public engagement activities, taking the lead in involving young minds with air quality issues. Over the project’s two-year duration, SmartSTEMs will collaborate with secondary schools across Glasgow to conduct a series of interactive workshops.

At our inaugural event, we engaged 150 pupils from various Glasgow schools in workshops centred on air quality. The curriculum-aligned materials utilized engaging, STEM-based activities—such as those developed by the team at NOOKU — to educate students on the causes and impacts of air pollution and climate change.

Our goal is to ignite curiosity, provide young people with essential knowledge, and inspire them to become environmental advocates. By sharing the results of their experiments with other schools, students will contribute to a city-wide dialogue on air quality.

If you are an Air Quality Researcher and would like to get involved in helping shape our youth engagement activities, please get in touch!
